چکیده
DESCRIPTION A 22-year-old man, right-hand dominant, presented with pain in his left hand after a severe crush injury at work using a forklift. Deformity, open fractures, swelling over the dorsum of his hand, and paresthesias to the index and middle digits were evident during initial examination. He was vascularly intact. Radiographs showed markedly comminuted fractures of the index metacarpal neck and middle metacarpal shaft with radial displacement and segmental bone loss.

Treatment of 10 year humeral shaft nonunion with segment bony defect: a case report
Humeral shaft nonunions with severe osteopenia presents challenges. Because of previous surgeries, complex anatomy of vascular, muscles and nerves at the nonunion site making the operation difficulty and risky. Vascularized fibula transfer and bone transporting are particularly useful in handling bone loss. However both methods require surgical experience and facility which are not available in...
متن کاملImmediate Reconstruction of Complex Hand Trauma With Iliac Crest Bone Graft and 2 Pedicled Fasciocutaneous Skin Flaps: A Case Report
OBJECTIVE The decision about primary or staged reconstruction of all structures in severe hand injuries is controversial. The purpose of this case report is to present a surgical protocol that lead to good functional results and rapid recovery after primary bone grafting with pedicled flap coverage of a complex hand injury. METHODS A case is reported in which 2 iliac crest bone grafts, an ext...

This retrospective study investigated the effect of recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 (rhBMP-2) mixed with cancellous allograft on fracture healing compared to iliac crest autograft in the treatment of long bone nonunion. Eighty-nine patients with 93 established long bone nonunions treated between January 2002 and June 2004 at a single academic Level I trauma center were evaluated....
متن کاملThumb proximal phalanx reconstruction with nonvascularized corticocancellous olecranon bone graft.
Large segmental bone defects of the phalanges reportedly have been treated with free vascularized grafts from the hand, foot, or knee, or with nonvascularized grafts from the iliac crest. A nonvascularized structural corticocancellous graft from a local site would be advantageous. The olecranon has been used as a source of both cancellous and corticocancellous graft. The authors describe a uniq...
متن کاملCERAMENT treatment of fracture defects (CERTiFy): protocol for a prospective, multicenter, randomized study investigating the use of CERAMENT™ BONE VOID FILLER in tibial plateau fractures
BACKGROUND Bone graft substitutes are widely used for reconstruction of posttraumatic bone defects. However, their clinical significance in comparison to autologous bone grafting, the gold-standard in reconstruction of larger bone defects, still remains under debate. This prospective, randomized, controlled clinical study investigates the differences in pain, quality of life, and cost of care i...
